Snowshoeing in Gatineau

Today, I finally embraced the Canadian winter and went out into the snowy woods of Gatineau. I went snowshoeing, something I heard of for the first time only a month ago. You attach snow shoes to your feet and then walk across the snow.

These are snowshoes.
It took some time to figure out how to get them on, but it was smooth sailing from there.

It sounds simple enough, but when climbing up hills, it’s more challenging than you’d expect. It was very fun (especially running down hills) and the snowshoes help not to sink into the snow.

Here are a few photos from my trip through the snowy forest…

The scenery of foggy hills through the trees was very mystical and a bit eery. With snowshoes you can go down trails you wouldn’t be able to with normal boots. This means that you can go places that seem more wild and isolated than just a hiking trail.

It was fun to run down the hills, but you have to go up them first!
